Client Overview

QNOPY Inc., based in Fremont, is a forward-thinking start up with a mission to transform field data collection and reporting within the environmental data collection sector. The traditional process for collecting and reporting environmental data was time-intensive and error-prone. QNOPY aimed to streamline this process through a digital platform that would facilitate efficient, accurate data collection and real-time synchronization between field teams and central servers.

Challenge

The environmental field data collection process posed several challenges :

• Dynamic Data Collection : The platform needed to support various data forms and templates, allowing field teams to collect data from multiple activities and locations.
• Offline Data Access and Synchronization : Due to the remote nature of many sites, the app required offline functionality and reliable synchronization once a connection was available.
• 3. Integration with GPS and Drawing Tools : QNOPY wanted features like GPS tracking, corrections, and annotation tools, enabling field personnel to collect detailed location data and visual annotations on-site.
• 4. Scalability and Reliability : The platform had to be robust and scalable, supporting data storage, processing, and retrieval efficiently as usage grew.

Solution

1. Dynamic Form Management Platform
   • We developed a platform enabling the dynamic creation and management of data forms. This cloud-based system allowed administrators to define custom forms and templates, tailored to various environmental data collection needs.
   • Forms could be designed with multiple data fields, conditional logic, and different input types, making them adaptable to any field scenario.
2. Android App with Dynamic Form Rendering
   • We built an Android app from scratch that dynamically renders forms based on metadata defined on the cloud. This flexibility ensured that field workers always had access to the latest forms and could easily switch between different data collection activities.
   • The app provided a user-friendly interface for data entry, reducing training requirements and improving data consistency.
3. Offline Functionality and Data Synchronization
   • Understanding the limitations of remote environments, we designed the app with offline storage capabilities. Data collected offline is stored locally and synchronized with the cloud server once an internet connection is re-established.
   • This synchronization process was built to be reliable, preventing data loss or duplication and ensuring that field data remains accurate and up-to-date.
4. GPS Integration and Drawing Tools
   • The app incorporated GPS functionality for location tracking and correction, allowing field personnel to capture precise geolocation data. Users could correct GPS coordinates in real-time, enhancing data accuracy in areas with limited GPS coverage.
   • Additionally, the app offered drawing and annotation tools, enabling users to create detailed site sketches and annotations directly within the app, which were then stored and synced along with the data.
5. AWS-Hosted, Scalable Backend
   • The platform was hosted on AWS, providing a secure, scalable, and reliable backend to handle data storage, processing, and retrieval.
   • AWS services allowed the app to scale efficiently as data volume and usage increased, supporting both real-time and offline data synchronization while maintaining performance and security standards.
